A prolific three-piece band/recording entity from the home counties, currently composed of Alex McCue (Drums, Guitar, Vocals), Rob "Spare" Hemmens (Bass) and Christian Dollimore (Piano, Vocals). Christian and Alex met in the summer of 1999 and performed a song ("The Ballad of the Croft", a reworking of the Beatles' song, "The Ballad of John and Yoko") at a talent show, with the help of guitarist Oliver John Holding. Meeting Spare in April 2000, they formed a comedy live act called The Bricklayers, they acheived some success at talent shows but never recorded under this name. The Purge started to record in 2001, shedding most of their comedy image, with the roles in the band by no means fixed; on the first album, Spare in fact plays less bass than Christian. However, things soon settled down and the basic framework of the Purge as it exists today was set up. From 2002 to 2004, the band were joined by vocalist Joe Mills on four of their albums. During this period, the band's style was fluid as they experimented with their ever-improving recording equipment. After Mills left for Australia, Dollimore and McCue were once again pushed towards vocals, giving us the set-up we have to this day. Read more on Last.fm.
