Wow, I think Snow Coats really nailed the ultimate emo, indie rock and Americana playlist.
So okay, maybe they missed Wednesday, Soccer Mommy and a few other Americana heroes of our time.
But still, ever since we welcomed Snow Coats for two playlist listening sessions and interviews at The Record Club, we’ve become obsessed with it.
A few highlights:
- Snow Coats & Bony Macaroni: who knew the Netherlands might have one of the strongest emo scenes outside the US? We saw Snow Coats live recently, and Ratboys even praised them on stage as “the best band on earth today.”
- Pinegrove: simply the best Americana band on earth?
- Yuck: were they the bridge between the sound of the ’90s and modern emo?
- Tigers Jaw: wow, what a great band.
- Alex G: he has become one of the defining voices of modern indie rock.
- Snail Mail: is Lush the best indie rock album since the ’90s?
- Slow Pulp: what a fantastic concert at Primavera Sound in Barcelona a few years ago. Great albums too. Are they the best indie rock band around right now?
- MJ Lenderman: his collaboration with Wednesday was stunning. His solo career may even be starting to eclipse Wednesday. Is he the coolest thing happening in indie rock right now?
- Ratboys: just listen to The Window, then dive into the rest of their catalogue.
- Westside Cowboy: the future?
- This Is Lorelei: I’m obsessed with I’m All F****d Up!
- Phoebe Bridgers: already one of the defining artists of modern indie.
- The Japanese House: like MUNA, they’re expanding indie rock into synth-pop and emo.
What I mean is: good luck beating this playlist. Congratulations to Snow Coats!
